In 2014 there were about 3,000 houseboats on London's canals. One of these is Velvet Morning in Little Venice, where the Grand Union Canal, Regent's Canal and Paddington Basin meet. When designer Sam Barbic bought the narrow boat, which is over 100 years old, it was clear that it would need some work to transform it into the gem it is today. To make the rather dark rooms look more spacious, she painted all the walls in different shades of white. In combination with the wooden floors and other natural wooden elements, this creates a cozy cottage atmosphere. The old wood stove also contributes to this, which also heats the water for the radiators in the rest of the boat.
